Simon & Schuster and AL Systems conclude Successful Conference on Voice Picking Best Practices

Oct 07, 2010 – Riverside, NJ and Rockaway, NJ – Simon & Schuster, a global leader in general interest publishing, and AL Systems, a leading provider of Warehouse Control System software and Order Fulfillment solutions, just concluded a successful Knowledge Conference titled “Using Voice Technology to Optimize your Distribution Operations”. The conference was attended by over 50 supply chain and distribution executives who were eager to learn more about adapting Voice Technology in their distribution operations and to share experiences and ideas gathered over years of working with the world’s most profitable companies.

“I have never seen so many supply chain and distribution executives together on one platform discussing best practices around a focused topic. I certainly preferred this format versus a more general topic across a large audience” said Jim Gontarz, Plant Engineering Manager, Hallmark Cards.

The conference began with a keynote presentation by Dave Schaeffer, VP Distribution, Simon & Schuster, followed by an interactive discussion between the audience and panelists from Simon & Schuster, AL Systems, Voxware, and LXE. “I appreciate the focus on knowledge transfer as opposed to product selling” said Greg Petro, VP Distribution, Lenox Corporation.

Following the panel discussion, the audience was taken on a tour of Simon & Schuster’s distribution center in Riverside, NJ where they were able to see the recently completed Warehouse Control System revamp and Voice Picking implementation that resulted in an annual $5 million cost savings. “It was a great learning experience to see a tightly run operation. The speaker, panelists, and tour coordinators were extremely informative and did a great job answering all our questions” said Paul McNamara, VP Distribution, Armani Exchange.

In closing, Jim Iversen, CEO, AL Systems said “We want to bring together thought leaders to collaborate and share knowledge around the issues and opportunities facing our businesses today. Our goal is to create a stimulus to get productive thoughts flowing resulting in education and idea exchange.”
